Verona, eine Stadt der Liebe, in der man so viel erleben kann und eine, die mit Paris und Venedig auf jeden Fall mithalten kann!  Unsere ganz persönliche Love Story von Verona hat zwar nix mit Romeo und Julia und der Geschichte der Stadt zu tun, jedoch ist sie mindestens genauso erwähnenswert 🙂  In den letzten Jahren war ich jährlich mindestens zwei Mal dort! Warum? Weil die Stadt nicht nur unglaublich schön ist, sondern auch, weil ich einen ganz persönlichen Bezug dorthin aufgebaut hab. Wie alles begann…

Als Stefan und ich uns kennen gelernt haben, war natürlich das Thema Nummer 1: Reisen. Wir waren sofort voneinander begeistert, da wir beide das Gefühl hatten, jemanden gefunden zu haben, der die Leidenschaft für die Entdeckung neuer Orte und Länder teilt. Was ich dabei besonders aufregend fand, war Stefans Art. Seine Art, spontan ins Auto zu steigen und irgendwo hin zu düsen, gut essen zu gehen, sich ein paar Glasal Vino zu gönnen und das Leben zu genießen. Ich glaub so hat er mich auch rum gekriegt (haha)! Jetzt wisst ihr das also auch! Na auf jeden Fall war es dann, ich glaub ein Mittwoch an dem Stefan mich, abends zum Essen eingeladen hat und folgendes meinte.

Baby, pack am Freitag bissi was ein. Wir fahren weg! (Mr. F)

Haha, ihr wisst gar nicht wie sehr ich diese Worte aus seinem Mund liebe 🙂 Und so fuhr ich das erste Mal in meinem Leben nach Verona und war überwältigt. Es war unser erster gemeinsamer Urlaub und daher bedeutet mir diese Stadt einfach unglaublich viel. Seitdem muss Stefan übrigens jedes Jahr mit mir hin und da gibts kein dran vorbei !! Gut aber jetzt zu unseren 23 Stunden in Verona, die wir am langen Osterwochenende  verbracht haben und danach in eine andere Italienische Stadt weiter gedüst sind.

Manchmal muss man einfach nur spontan sein und das Leben genießen.

Tag 1 – Verona

Ankommen 19 Uhr

Wo am besten parken? Die Innenstadt ist Fußgängerzone, das müsst ihr wissen, wenn ihr ein Hotel in der City bucht. Ihr müsst daher vor den Stadttoren parken und zwar in der GARAGE ITALIA, wo wir immer parken, wenn wir dort sind. Für 24h bezahlt ihr hier 20 Euro. Auch die anderen Garagen sind nicht wesentlich günstiger. Etwas außerhalb gibt es natürlich günstigere Varianten. Diese ist auf jeden Fall nur 5 Gehminuten von der Arena entfernt und daher perfekt. Die Angestellten sind super nett und die Abwicklung läuft wie am Schnürchen.

Einchecken & first things first: Cappucino 19 Uhr

Das erste was wir meistens machen, ist uns einen Cappucino oder Espresso zu gönnen. Da es an dem Tag schon spät war, blieb es bei Cappucino, damit wir nicht die Nacht im Bett stehen würden 🙂 Den haben wir uns gleich direkt beim Check-In geholt. Diesmal haben wir wieder eine neue Unterkunft getestet, die ich über Booking.com entdeckt hab und von der ich aufgrund der Bilder und Bewertungen begeistert war. Die City Rooms & Apartments Verona bieten nicht nur ein recht modernes Zimmer, mit großem Bad, sondern auch einen Balkon und das mitten in der Stadt direkt am Piazza Brà. Und wisst ihr, was das beste ist? Der Ausblick! Der Balkon findet sich nur wenige Meter von der ARENA DI VERONA entfernt und somit habt ihr einen herrlichen Ausblick auf das wunderschöne, historische Wahrzeichen der Stadt. Gehts noch besser?

Dinner 20:30 Uhr

Mittlerweile gehen wir immer ins Ristaurante GREPPIA, wenn wir in Verona sind, da es einfach unglaublich gute italienische Spezialitäten gibt. Vor allem die Pasta, die Fisch- und Fleischgerichte sind der Hammer! Es befindet sich in einer kleinen Seitengasse, unweit vom dem Julia Balkon! Bitte seht auch mal die Bilder an, denn vor allem das Ambiente, direkt in der Gasse draußen zu sitzen ist ein Traum! Secret Tipp! Absolut keine Touri-falle und noch dazu italienische Küche vom Feinsten! I LOVE!

Tag 2 – Verona

Wake up Call 8:30 Uhr

Gemütlich ausschlafen, die Fenster und Türen aufmachen, sich eine Tasse Nespresso runter lassen und am Balkon die Aussicht genießen… What else? An dieser Stelle nicht zu vergessen der kuschelige rosa Hotel-Bademantel (happy me)!

Breakfast with a view 9:30 Uhr

Bucht ihr ein Zimmer in den City Rooms & Appartments, dann habt ihr ein Frühstück direkt am Piazza Bra inkludiert! Hammer oder?  Und zwar im Restaurant Mamma Mia, von dem ich echt begeistert war. Ihr kennt vermutlich alle die typischen italienischen Frühstück Buffets, die meist nur wenig mit einem tollen Frühstück zu tun haben, zumindest für uns Österreicher (die guten Semmal haben sie nämlich nicht). Nein Spaß bei Seite, hier war ich echt beeindruckt. Es gab kein Buffet sondern eine Karte, von der man alles bestellen konnte, was man wollte. Es gab nicht nur alle Variationen an Eiern, sondern frischen, hauchdünn geschnittenen Prosciutto di Parma und unterschiedliche Käsesorten. Sehr lecker – hier wird jedenfalls nicht gespart und Preis Leistung passt!!

Sight Seeing 10:30 Uhr

Startet am besten gleich morgens, eventuell noch früher als wir es getan haben, denn dann habt ihr noch keinen Trubel rund um den Julia Balkon. Am besten gleich als erstes dort hin 🙂 Verona hat so viele schöne Ecken! Neben dem Julia Balkon (Casa di Giulietta) , der wohl meist besuchten Sehenswürdigkeit, hat die Stadt aber noch viel mehr zu bieten. Bewegt euch doch mal in den vielen kleinen Gässchen und geht hoch zum Markt am Piazza delle Erbe oder genießt den Blick von der Ponte Pietra. Ihr wollt die Stadt von oben sehen? Dann macht euch auf  in Richtung Castel San Pietro. Die Kaserne stammt aus österreichischer Zeit und von dort habt ihr einen mega schönen Ausblick! Wunderschön ist natürlich der Piazza Brà rund um die Arena, aber da kommt ihr ohnehin vorbei, wenn ihr Richtung Stadt geht!

SECRET TIPP: Ihr seid während der Festspielwochen in Verona und habt kein Ticket mehr für die Oper ergattert? Braucht ihr nicht! Reserviert euch am Besten gleich einen Tisch in einem der Restaurants am Piazza Brà oder gönnt euch ein Glas Wein und lauscht den Klängen live aus der Arena!  Übrigens – wenn ihr meinen Hotel Tipp wählt, könnt ihr das ganze auf eurem privaten Balkon genießen! Näher kann man gar nicht an der Arena wohnen! Das Arena Opera Festival in diesem Jahr findet übrigens von 23. Juni bis 27. August 2017 statt.

Cappucini Numero Due 11:00 Uhr

Es gibt so viele kleine Cafes mit ein paar Tischen an der Straße. Ich trau mich zu behaupten, dass der Cappucino  hier überall gut ist 😀 Also mal kurz einen Stop in einer der Seitenstraßen oder am Piazza delle Erbe einlegen uns dem Trubel der Stadt lauschen <3 BENE BENE

Lunch 13:00 Uhr

Eine Portion Antipasti gefällig? Unweit vom Casa di Julietta findet ihr die Osteria Locandina Cappello, in der es nicht nur einen super Vino gibt, sondern auch ein paar italienische Leckereien. Perfekt für den Hunger zwischendurch! Im Sommer stehen auch ein paar Stehtische draußen oder ihr könnt hier am offenen Fenster speisen. Mehr Italien geht fast nicht, oder?

Wer es etwas exklusiver mag, kann im Restaurant Maffei speisen. Die Preise sind allerdings etwas höher, das Ambiente jedoch wunderbar!

Shopping 14:30 Uhr

Obwohl Verona im Vergleich zu den Modemetropolen Italiens echt winzig erscheint, gibt es hier mehr Läden, als man denkt! Neben den großen Ketten wie Zara, Stradivarius, Cos und H&M gibt es auch eine ganze Reihe an Designer-Shops! Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Max Mara, Coccinelle, Furla und viele mehr! Es gibt aber auch einige italienische Boutiquen, die auf jeden Fall einen Abstecher wert sind. Die Icona Boutique hat einfach wunderschöne Sachen, aber leider auch eher was für das große Geldbörsal! Während unser Sightseeing Runde am Vormittag konnte ich einen kleinen Laden entdecken, der Gucci Loafer Look-a-likes hatte – MEGA! Leider gab es die Dinger nicht in meiner Größe. Solltest ihr dort sein schaut unbedingt dort hin. Was mir auch noch gut gefallen hat und noch halbwegs leistbar war, war der Shop Carlo Bottico.

Gelato 16:00 Uhr

Secret Tip: Na wer macht das beste Eis? Die Italiener natürlich! Und dieses hier, ist sogar biologisch. Die Eisdiele Come Una Volte macht leckeres biologisches Eis in unglaublich vielen Variationen und mit leckeren Toppings. I LIKE!

Verona is my personal city of love!  It’s so different to Paris and Venice though both of the cities are famous for couple travel destinations too. So why is it so different to me?  Within the last years I traveled at least once a year to Verona and therefore I feel home in the city anytime I’m there. Seems that I fell in love with this city! Okay, let me tell you why…

When Stefan and I met one of the first things we did together has been traveling. Everything started when we had dinner on a Wednesday (I love remembering myself to this lovely evening) and we were talking about what to do on the weekend. He just came around with the words: Baby, let’s go somewhere on the weekend! Since then I hear those words at least once a month. (haha, and I love it!) So Verona has been our very first travel together and consequently, this city is even more special to me.

This year we had a very short stopover in Verona before going to another city on the Easter weekend. What do when you are just 1 day and 1 night in Verona? Let’s follow my 23 hours guide below.

DAY 1

Arrival 7 pm

I’d recommend you to leave the car in one of the parking spaces like the garage Italia. When you’re planning to take one of the hotels in the center please be aware that there is a pedestrian zone in all areas of the city center and therefore it is not possible to park directly at the hotel. The guys from the garage Italia take around 20 Euro for a 24h stay. I know it is not a hot deal but it is located very centrally only 5 minutes away from the Arena.

Check-In 7.30pm

As we booked our room just one day before we made a snatch on booking.com! We checked-in to the City Rooms & Apartments Verona that are located directly at the Piazza Brà. What we did first was picking up our key at the Restaurant Mamma Mia and getting ourselves a Cappuccino. We are very much enjoying the first minutes in Verona watching the excitement in front of the arena. Our room was modern and offered not only a nice bathroom but also a balcony with an amazing view that’s definitely the highlight of the room! The ARENA DI VERONA is only a few meter away from the balcony. WE LOVE!

Dinner 8.30pm

Whenever we are in Verona we go to our all-time favorite restaurant. It is called Ristorante Greppia and you can find it in one of the backstreets close to the Casa di Giulia. While they are offering many Italian specialties including all kind of pasta, delicious fish and seafood but even great dishes with meat they are not offering Pizza.  All the dishes are super delicious and I’d highly recommend booking a table outdoor because it’s very charming eating in the side street with all the plants and flowers around.

DAY 2

Wake up Call 8.30am

Waking up in a good mood, opening the windows, wrapping yourself into a pink hotel robe and enjoying a cup of Nespresso coffee on your private balcony in the streets of Verona…What else?

Breakfast with a view 9.30am

What’s better than having breakfast with an amazing view included in the room price? When you book one of the rooms at City Rooms & Apartments (or via booking.com) your table in front of the Arena is reserved! Usually, I don’t like Italian breakfast that much because I don’t like their white bread. Surprisingly they had no buffet but they offered a breakfast Menu where you can order all kind of eggs, variations of cheese and even prosciutto!

Sightseeing 10.30am

Things you definitely need to see when in Venice. The Casa di Giulietta is a must and I would recommend going there straight away in the morning to avoid the big hurry of tourists. But Verona offers many more historic corners as for example the Piazza delle Erbe and the Piazza Brà. Furthermore, you find one of the best views at the Ponte Pietra or even you can walk up to the Castel San Pietro to see Verona from above!

If you have an interest in opera you should go there during summer when the Arena Opera Festival takes place that is this year from June 23rd to August 27th. For those who didn’t get a ticket, I highly recommend to book a table for dinner or drinks on the Piazza Brà where you can hear the music during the show. But simply the best seats are definitely on your private balcony when you have booked a room in the City Rooms & Apartments.

Lunch 1 pm

Stop at the Osteria Locandina Cappello and get yourself some antipasti and a glass of Italian wine! During summer they also have tables next to the street where you can just sit outside watching the city life while eating olives and parmesan. You might want to have it more exclusive. Then you should go to the Restaurant Maffei which is on the ground floor of a hotel directly on the Piazza delle Erbe.

Shopping 2.30pm

Though Verona seems to be tiny compared to the fashion capitals like Milano or Florence there are more designer shops as you would assume! Next to big fashion retailers like Zara, Stradivarius, Cos or H&M you’ll find Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Max Mara, Coccinelle, Furla and many more! But additionally there are lovely Italian Boutiques and it is worth to take a look in there. For example, the Icona Boutique has got a lot of fancy and cool stuff but unfortunately, it is a bit pricey. But for sure I found also a more affordable one like the Carlo Bottico.

Gelato 4 pm

Secret Tip: Who does the best ice cream? The Italians of course!! And the winner is Come Una Volte!  That one is even offering organic and biological ice cream in many different flavors with diverse toppings!  I LIKE!
